homemade wax

I was looking forward to buy cold wax in a local store last Friday afternoon and I was deeply disappointed to know that it was not available anymore so I decided to make my own.
I've read that waxing was an Egyptian secret, it's part of their spirituality since beauty was their way to be pleasing to the gods. One of their secret technique is the art of hair removal.

the recipe is very simple :)

 2 cups brown sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup distilled water

 * lemon acts as an acid/preservative and it can slow down the crystallization (hard candy) process

mix everything
do not use teflon pan

the next step is the most challenging part

Use low to medium heat to cook the mixture

Stir constantly for about 8-10 minutes, if the mixture comes to a boil lift it up and wait for the mixture to settle down then place it back again.
all done!!!
If you want to test if it is ready, is the cold water method, take a spoonful of the mixture and dip it in cold water.

dip and lift the spoon, if you can mold it using your fingers and can hold its shape then you are done :)

The procedure:

Use a plastic knife, spoon or popsicle stick, spread a thin layer over the skin (opposite direction of hair growth).
Let it cool so that it won’t burn your skin. Test it using the palm of  your hand.

Place paper on top of the mixture and rub it. Pull the wax in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

Store the mixture in a jar do not refrigerate. If you want to reuse it again, please check the pic below.

dip in hot water

*This method is skin friendly since it does not contain any harmful chemicals. It is so gentle that it can be applied to any body part or skin type. Hair grows finer and lighter. Makes your skin smoother too!
